AFTERNOON REDFISH
4-22-2013--Had two fishermen today using artificial lures. I used Gulp jerk shad while they changed back and forth from soft plastics to top water lures several times. We spent about two hours in Copano bay without getting a single keeper. The first two places we went there was no bait evident. The third wade we encountered lots of bait but no fish. I decided it was time for a big change so we put the boat back on the trailer and moved south to Cove Harbor. Two wades on an outside windward beach produced only one nice trout along with a few smaller ones. We moved to the south end of Redfish Bay, missed a couple of fish and got into a school of skipjack. The skipjack were large and fun to catch but that wasn't adding to our fish box so we took a long boat ride looking for bait and ended back at a bar we had rejected earlier due to a lack of bait. We decided to fish there out of desperation and not far from the boat started seeing some bait fish. The man in the picture caught his redfish on top water lures while the jerk shad worked for me. It was a good ending to a tough day.
