DRUM SAVE THE DAY

4-22-2014--Today's fishers limited with 15 black drum.  The drum were unusually large compared to those we normally catch in the bays.  Several weighted between 12 and 14 pounds and ranged up to 29 1/2 inches.  The drum along with 2 trout filled the boat's ice chest.

LADIES WITH BLACK DRUM

4-2-2013--I knew today would be good when I talked on the phone with my very enthusiastic clients.  Early on two rods went down.  They picked them up but before they could make much headway the other two rods went down.  I just left them in the holders while the fish were brought in.  They landed the third fish next but the fourth pulled off.   Later this happened again with four fish on at once.  Again they landed three.  After that I only put out three rods.  Altogether, they caught and released 12 over sized black drum up to 40 inches before deciding to go for eating fish.  When I tried to pull the anchor it wouldn't come so I wrapped the line on the boat cleat and put the boat in gear.  When the anchor came up it had a one inch cable caught in the flukes.  The wind was blowing 30 MPH and we had a strong incoming tide going the same direction.  I could pull the anchor to just under the water but there was no way I could release the cable.  The lady police officer grabbed the cable and pulled it up enough for me to release the anchor, a feat most men couldn't have accomplished.  If you are ever in Minnesota don't mess with any lady police officers.  They ended the day with the 12 released black drum, 3 redfish keepers and three black drum keepers and released 3 gafftop sail catfish and released over 20 undersized red drum.
